Becoming a Notary Public

Notaries Public have duties and responsibilities that confer upon them the trust and faith of the public. Notaries Public are authorized to perform certain official duties that are critical to those who need them. The primary duty is to formally witness transactions involving paper documents. Maine Notaries may also officiate at wedding ceremonies. Maine adult residents can become and function as Maine Notaries Public. This class will explain the process to become a notary, some of the various types of documents that you would notarize and record keeping requirements. Application for the actual license is made to the Secretary of State, there is a $50 licensing fee and is valid for seven years.
