HiSET (The High School Equivalency Test)

with Multiple Instructors

Free

The High School Equivalency Test (HiSET®) is a way for people who didn't finish high school to earn a diploma and get on track for college or a career. The exam has five parts: Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Writing.

The state of Maine uses HiSET® for high school equivalencies, not GED. Your HSE credential will be accepted by every state, territory and  jurisdiction, as well as by the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. military, and federal programs.

Eligibility:

  • Age: You must be at least 17 years old. You must have withdrawn from high school to enroll in HiSET®.
  • Residency: You must provide a government issued photo ID and (if needed) one other form of identification with your  Maine address to prove you are a resident of Maine.
  • Cost: The HiSET® program is free to Maine residents when taken through Maine Adult Education.
  • English Skills: Multilingual learners are eligible to enroll when they have a CASAS score of 239.
